What does it take to be a Realtor these days? In less than 60 days on line you can become a Realtor in Oregon. It was about 30 years ago I took a 30day course to get my Real estate license. It taught me absolutely nothing about what I needed to do to be a successful Realtor and even less about sales. The trick is learning how to be good at what you’re doing. I received my first lesson within months of getting my license to sell real estate. A stranger made this point very clear in a weird chance meeting. Around 1988 I saw an ultra-light plane do an emergency landing in a field in Sandy. I immediately stopped and asked if he was OK, “He said, yes, can you tell me where I am? I said you just landed in a field off Teneyck. The field your in is owned by Mike Cane, he has 80 acres of prime farm land. The Sandy River is just below you and this farm was part of the Oregon Trail and about where your standing was a rest stop for the weary travelers. After looking me over he says you’re a Realtor aren’t you? I said yes in amazement and I asked how did you know that? He said I own a large Real-estate office that has 26 Brokers, so I employ Realtors. The information you gave me was detailed, precise and accurate but most of it was useless, and it arrived far too late to be of any real help in my present situation.
